Check out the pictures below - the top picture is the 1937 basketball team from Edwards Elementary School in Beaumont, TX.
Bum is the 6th player from the left (notice he's the only one in "street" shoes (lol!)) My father, Dan Dennis, is the 9th player from the left. They ended up going to school together until graduation from high school. Bum was voted "most likely to succeed" and my father ended up being the class valedictorian... (no, it didn't transfer to me lol!)
Fast-forward to 2007 - 70 years after the picture of the basketball team - I took my dad to see Bum in Port Neches - (Bum was autographing one of his books) - they hadn't see each other since graduation from high school... what a great day - don't know who was happier to see the other guy - Bum or my father...
